GoScriptures

GoScriptures has been my passion project for nine years: a faith-centered social platform I now design, build, and run end to end.

When I left Vix, I wanted to immerse myself in modern software engineering again. I learned Angular from version 5, then TypeScript, JavaScript, and Node.js. I wrote down my ideas and shaped them into user stories.

Finding the right technical partnership took time and it taught me the old adage the hard way: you have to go slow before you can go fast. Once the partnership was right, we built steadily, release after release.

The design evolved the same way. A UI/UX firm gave us our first designs, and an independent designer's work shaped a redesign. Living with the site every day taught me its ethos, the raw essence of purpose which helped me better learn the brand and what makes this platform unique. Using AI, first ChatGPT and then Claude, I redesigned the site completely around this ethos and have been evolving it ever since.

When my technical partner moved on, I took over the Java backend, PostgreSQL, and DevOps, earned my AWS certifications, and learned to work with AI far more deeply. Today I run every layer on my own, and I have big plans for where it goes next.

A curious study companion

Isaiah wrote in poetry that was rich even for its time, which makes it hard for us to follow today. We are integrating natural language processing so you can ask clarifying questions as you read, deepen your study, and learn as you go. It will be made slightly curious, too, and may ask how a passage makes you feel.

Privacy and security are fundamental design requirements. Conversations will be private to each user, with safeguards governing how their data is processed and protected.

Native iOS and Android apps

Our web pages are built on Bootstrap and designed to look beautiful and work fully at any screen size, but native apps add capabilities the web cannot match, such as push notifications for events and messages. We have begun building them in React Native and hope to have fully functioning apps soon.

Group-to-group challenges

Challenges bring people together to perform acts of kindness, read scripture, and share their experiences. Today, any number of people can join a challenge together. Next, we are building group-to-group challenges, so groups can challenge other groups anywhere in the world.

Imagine your Bible study group in Salt Lake City performing daily acts of kindness alongside a group in England or Asia, then discussing together how those acts touch yourselves and others.
